Shavuot 5782

It is with great anticipation and excitement that we look forward to celebrating Shavuot 5782 with you at Shomrei Torah. Our Rabbis have understood the Ten Commandments to be ten broad categories which contain within them multitudes of mitzvot and Torah topics. Last year, we expanded upon the mitzvah of Anochi Hashem to include topics related to faith, emunah, and bitachon. This year, we will focus on the second of the commandments לא יהיה, not to serve any foreign deities. This is highlighted in Megillat Rut, where Rut chooses Judaism by declaring “your nation is my nation, your G-d is my G-d.”  The message the Torah is sharing with us is to ensure we have our priorities set. Our theme this year is “Who's on Top of Our Mountain,” and during Yom Tov we will spend time learning and discussing issues related to time, priorities, values, and struggling with our yetzer hara, etc.

Shavuot 5782 is not only a time to recommit ourselves to our Torah, but to think about how our Torah will guide us into the months and years ahead. I hope we can begin these conversations over Yom Tov together.

We are also very excited to bring back the Shavuot BBQ on the second day of Yom Tov after a 2 year hiatus (more details will be sent out with a link to register for the BBQ later this week). Additionally, our kids and teen programming will be led by Elisheva Rubin and Ben Zigelstein.
